An astronomical 18,000 leaves were laser cut, folded, glued to florist wire then glued to three life size trees for the Australian Ballets premier performance of Oscar Wilde.
This one element of Jean-Marc Puissant’s dynamic set, took five months to complete.
The branches and trunk of each tree were cut on our flat-bed laser machine, as was the Styrofoam which was glued and carved on one side of the aluminium to cheat a three-dimensional look. After painting the trunk and branches assembling the ombre coloured leaves could begin. The result was hyper realistic shrubbery that represented the changing of the seasons.

Never far from our minds is the transportation and storage of the pieces we create. Each tree received its own travel frame and travel frame cover to protect the delicate fabric leaves from wind, dust and general wear and tear.
